There are three types of baptisms mentioned in the Bible.
To witness the move of God as seen in Acts 2, we need these three baptisms. They provide us with power, authority, anointing, and holiness, and enable us to be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ.
In Matthew 3:11, John the Baptist mentioned that he baptized with water for repentance, but Jesus, who is more powerful than he, will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Here, John mentions he baptized with water, but Jesus who is more powerful than he is will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
The three baptisms are:
- The Baptism of Water
- The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
- The Baptism of Fire
The baptism of Water
After receiving salvation, we are baptized with water, which is a public demonstration of repentance of sins. Even Jesus Christ was baptized with water as our example.
The Holy Spirit empowers us to be effective witnesses for the kingdom of God with visible miracles, signs, and wonders. Speaking in tongues is the initial sign of being baptized with the Holy Spirit, but not speaking in tongues doesn’t mean that one has not received the baptism. It is important for every believer to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Some spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit include tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, wisdom, knowledge, discernment, faith, miracles, and healing.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit
The baptism of the Spirit is when the Holy Spirit comes and empowers us to be effective witnesses for the kingdom of God with visible miracles, signs, and wonders.
The first initial sign of being baptized by the power of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues (Acts 2).
Because you do not speak in tongues doesn’t mean you don’t have the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
It is important however that every believer have the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Some spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit are tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, wisdom, knowledge, discernment, faith, miracles, and healing.
The baptism of Fire
The baptism of fire is the presence of God in us and around us. The glory cloud!
This fire purifies us and also brings judgment
It helps us to live holy lives before God.
Having a zeal, passion, and love for the things of God. Likewise, a total surrender to His will.
Everyone receiving the baptism of fire always sees some tangible evidence:
- Some people feel warmth or heat in their hands or a stinging feeling like when you clap them together.
- A fire in their lower back and a tingling sensation in their entire body.
- A peace that passes all understanding or a great joy of God within.
- Unable to stand up under the glory of God.
- Some sweat while others shake under the power of God.
- Most people have wonderful experiences receiving the Holy Fire.
Keeping the fire burning
We should always have our fire burning by practicing our spiritual disciplines:
Prayer, Fasting, Praise & Thanksgiving, Meditation on the Word and Service.
Conclusion
These three baptisms enable God’s power to work in and through His servants, empowering them to do great signs, wonders, and miracles.
Let us, therefore, go forth with power and authority. Doing great signs, wonders and miracles. That you may impact the lives of those around you.
Remember the only Jesus that people see is the Jesus in you and me.
Be blessed with all spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus…

I always have this warmness on my head often times, like when I am in church or praying. I can really remember when it started in 2012 but I had never thought in this line of the baptism of fire. It was yesterday night, after all these years that, this though of baptism of fire, which John spoke about came to my mind. Today, I saw you wrote about it.
God is teaching me something.
Regards.
In beginning of October I dreamt my entire body was in flames. It was my 3rd and final dream. Other 2 dreams were end time prophetic dreams. Next morning after fire dream, I woke up with a mark on my abdomen that appears as a burn mark. It did not burn or itch. Did not know what happened to me as I had only prayed once about 2 weeks prior to that dream, asking God if he and the Bible were real because I was seeing too many coincidences that appeared to be end times. I asked for a sign and he did that with a grand finale!
Weeks later, I attended a church. They provided me with a bible and found interpretation, that I was baptized with fire. It was so intense and frightening! Now it’s a blessing and am so happy our sovereign God showed me and saved me.
Amen , I like the Biblical Baptism, Cos it’s having the power of God,,
