Jesus is Our Chief Cornerstone!
In the Bible, Jesus is metaphorically used as a cornerstone.
Scripture text: 1 Peter 2:6-8:– Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,”Behold, I lay in Zion. A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected. Has become the chief cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.“
What is a cornerstone?
In the past, builders would lay the cornerstone, which was the first stone placed on the ground at one of the four corners of a building. This stone was used as a guide for the workmen to determine every measurement in the building process. Every stone was aligned with the chief cornerstone.
Our Lives Must Be in Alignment
Since Jesus is our chief cornerstone, our lives must be aligned with His word. He said He would give us the Holy Spirit, who would guide us and lead us into all truths. Thus, it’s the role of the Holy Spirit to help us be aligned with God. We simply need to be open and obedient to His instructions.
As we build our lives, we need to place Jesus first in all we do. If we don’t, we will be out of spiritual alignment. Therefore, whatever we are doing would be in vain. This reminds me of the scripture that says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)
We don’t want to work in vain; rather, we want everything we do to prosper. When we walk in obedience, we have God’s favor over us. Thus, wherever we go and whatever we do, things will work in our favor.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) This highlights the importance of having Christ at the center of our lives and in everything we do.
Facing the Storms of Life
When the storms of life come, we will be able to stand strong because we know that Jesus is the center of our lives and He will keep us when we can’t keep ourselves.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
We need Jesus to be successful in the world, as there will be times when the pressures or storms of life challenge your faith. However, if you stand upon the chief cornerstone, your faith in Him will give you strength, and you will trust Him through the process.
