The Ashbury Revivals

Asbury University is a private Christian liberal arts university located in Wilmore, Kentucky.

The college has a rich history of revivals dating back to 1905, 1908, 1921, 1950, 1958, 1970, 1992, and 2006.

The 1970 revival at Asbury had far-reaching cultural effects and remains central to the construction of Asbury’s spiritual identity. It is said that this revival spread across the United States and into foreign countries, with some claiming its impact is still felt today.

On February 8, 2023, a revival was sparked by students following a regular chapel service. This revival has been compared to the one that took place in 1970.

Today, we examine these two revivals that occurred at Asbury University in 1970 and 2023.

Asbury Revival 2023

The Asbury Revival of 1970 began as a routine chapel service on February 3 when students and faculty members experienced a move of the Holy Spirit during a meeting. The service, scheduled for 50 minutes, lasted 185 hours non-stop, 24 hours a day, and intermittently continued for weeks.

Asbury Revival 2023

The 2023 Asbury revival was sparked by students spontaneously staying in Hughes Auditorium following a regularly scheduled chapel service. The revival has been attended by approximately 15,000 people each day and is significant because of its social media presence, attracting millions of views with the hashtag #asburyrevival.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

Let us humble ourselves, pray and seek God’s face and see him move in our lives and nation.
