Power of giving tithes
Giving thithes first started with Abraham and continues to this present day.
What is a tithe
A tithe is a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution to a religious organization or compulsory tax to a government. Today, tithes are typically voluntary and paid in cash, cheques, or stocks, whereas historically, tithes were required and paid in kind, such as agricultural products. Several European countries operate a formal process linked to the tax system allowing some churches to assess tithes.
The origins of giving tithes
In Genisis 14:18-20 tithes was first mentioned when Abraham returned from his victory over Chedorlaomer. Melchizedek brought bread and wine to Abraham and spoke a blessing over him. Abraham gave him tithes of all his spoil.
They define spoil – as personal or household effects, livestock, or other items of value that are taken as plunder from a defeated enemy.
Who was Melchisedec:
Melchisedec was king of Salem and priest of the most high God. First being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. Hebrews 7:-4
They consider Jesus a priest in the order of Melchizedek.
The Levitical priesthood and the law of Moses came after.
Are giving tithes still relevant for today?
I usually hear people say tithing is not relevant for today, but I beg to differ through my personal experience. A few years back, I was struggling financially, trying to make ends meet. Then one day, I came across a testimonial video from The 700 Club about tithing, and as I watched it, I decided that no matter what; I will tithe. I also remember the scripture which said God gives seed to the sower (Isaiah 55:10). So, I asked God to provide me with the seed, and you know what, someone had owed me a little of cash and that same night, they gave it. I smiled and offered it to God. From that day on, I continued to tithe. The amazing thing is, from that day until now, I never lacked financially.
In the video below, the doctor found himself in $500,000 debt and going bankrupt. Things looked hopeless until he tried unique financial advice.
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. (Malachi 3:10-12)
If you are faced with financial challenges, tithe because you will see the powerful effect it has on your finances.
