5 Ways to be Spiritually Connected to God and See Spiritual Growth

They are so many distractions around us today, which can lead to us being disconnected from God. However, it is not for you to remain in that place but for you to take the steps necessary to reconnect with God.

These steps are the five spiritual disciplines.

They consist of actions you take to build intimacy with God. They are prayer, fasting, meditating on scriptures, praise & thanksgiving, and serving others.

Prayer

When we pray, we are communicating with God. As in any conversation, when you talk to God, listen for Him to reply to you and do as He commands.

Be disciplined in your prayer life, meaning it must not be done when you feel like, but it must be done daily. I have found that praying thrice a day works for me (which is morning, afternoon, and night).

If you are having struggles with your prayer life, ask the Holy Spirit to help you.

Fasting

Fasting is a deliberate choice to abstain from food or drink for some time.

There are two main types of fasting, which are a partial fast and an absolute fast.

A partial fast is where you would restrain from certain food or drinks as you fast. A good example of this would be the Daniel’s fast—a 21-day fast Daniel took where he abstained from certain delicacies.

The absolute is where you only use water for the time of your fasting.

Fasting helps you to kill the fleshly desires and feed your spirit. Therefore, you will be more in tune with the Holy Spirit.

If you have any health-related issues, consult your doctor before you begin a fast.

Meditating on Scriptures

Meditating on scriptures develops your relationship with God.

The Bible contains His Love, His heart, His Laws and His promises to you, His child.

This increases your faith as you meditate, give you peace and wisdom, and it helps you put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to fight against the works of the devil.

As you meditate, you need to take action by believing it, speaking it, and living it.

Praise & Thanksgiving

God loves it when we offer praise and thanksgiving unto Him,

As it brings us into His presence.

We must praise Him for His goodness towards us, and most importantly, for who He is, not only when things are going good for us but also on the bad days.

You should have an attitude of gratitude.

When the praises go up, the blessings come down.

Service to other

We are called to serve God and serve others.

There are many ways in which you can serve; however, our servitude must be done with love and humility—not with grumblings, quarrels, or frustrations.

When we serve in love, we are being true representatives of God.

Conclusion

Practicing these 5 spiritual disciplines will help you to reconnect and grow spiritually with God. Remember, these are disciplines, so they should become part of you and part of your day-to-day living.
